Caption: Well and water pipe (left). The stone cover helps keep the water supply clean, and the pipe supplies fresh water. This well is in the Kibera slum in Nairobi, Kenya. Fresh and clean water is essential to prevent the spread of disease, though not all areas of the slum have adequate sanitation or clean water. The slum is home to some 700,000 people. Photographed in January 2006.
