Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Television production. Worker checks the quality of glass television picture tubes as they cool on the conveyor belt of a production line after being shaped. These picture tubes will have a screen attached and then be partially evacuated to form a cathode ray tube. The television works by firing a beam of electron particles from the back of the tube onto the screen. When the electrons hit the screen, light is emitted. Glass can be made to form almost any shape by heating it until molten, shaping it by a variety of methods, and then allowing it to cool and solidify.
