The Gherkin. Top of 30 St Mary Axe, the building commonly known as the Gherkin due to its shape. This building is located in the heart of the City of London. It stands at 180 metres tall and has 40 floors. The top floor, under the glass dome ceiling, houses a private bar with panoramic views of the city. The shape of the building maximises the amount of natural light and ventilation in the building, reducing energy consumption by half. The Gherkin was designed by the architects Norman Foster and Partners and was opened in 2004.
