Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Drug research on human tissue. Technician using a pipette while testing a drug on tissue samples from the human colon (large intestine). The equipment at right constantly feeds the drug over the tissue samples in a process called perfusion. The effects of the drug on the tissues' properties are measured by the black boxes at upper centre. The equipment, which is smaller than many systems and will become fully automated, is being developed by Pharmagene. They believe that better results are achieved if drugs for humans are tested on human tissue. This is supported by animal rights groups. Photographed at Pharmagene, Royston, Hertfordshire, England.
