Caption: Silk factory. Workers loading silk onto a spinning machine in China. The silk comes from the cocoon of the common silk moth (Bombyx mori). The larva inside the cocoon is killed before the silk is unravelled. Each cocoon has about 275 metres of fine silk thread. Threads from several cocoons are twisted together to make the silk thread used in textile weaving.
