Caption: Cereal grains in a malthouse. The cereal grains (usually barley) are undergoing a process called malting. The seeds of the plant are allowed to germinate, but are then dried before the plant develops. This malted grain can be used to make products such as whiskey, beer and vinegar. This malthouse, in Tula, Russia, is operated by Baltika Brewers. Founded in 1990, Baltika Brewers is the largest brewery company in Russia. The Tula brewery opened in August 2004, the date this photograph was taken.
