Caption: Shoplifting detectors. These antennas at the exit doors of a shop are part of an anti-theft tagging system, known as electronic article surveillance (EAS) system. The items contained in the shop are usually tagged with electromagnetically activated chips. If these items are purchased, the chips are deactivated. If the items are stolen, the chips have not been deactivated and are detected by the antennas, which sound the alarm and alert security staff of the theft.
