Caption: Missile flight test. F-15 Eagle aircraft releasing an anti-satellite (ASAT) missile, called ASM-135, during a test. This missile destroyed the Solwind P78-1 satellite on 13th September 1985. The satellite was in Earth orbit and being used in research on the Sun at the time of the impact. Testing missiles and other ASAT devices ensures that any future satellite posing a threat to Earth when re-entering its atmosphere can be safely destroyed in space.
