Caption: Grey and brown metallic enamel paint laid on top of a red watercolour base. This image visualises the principle of viscosity which is a property of fluids and gases. The enamel, due to its higher viscosity, floats on the surface of the watercolour base like oil on water. Enamel is a decorative medium used for producing highly glazed surfaces on metal. It is composed of soft glass painted over metal and then fired in a furnace. Different colours, usually derived from metal oxides, can be added to the enamel.
