Caption: Military arctic survival training. Navy recruits slaughtering a muskox, during arctic survival training in Northern Greenland. The recruits are training to become members of the Royal Danish Navy's SIRIUS sledge patrol unit. The primary task of SIRIUS is to patrol, survey and protect Danish territory in North and Northeast Greenland. During training, the recruit must learn to survive sub- zero temperatures, create emergency snow shelters, hunt for food and drive dogsledge teams. Muskox hunting is only permitted under licence from the Greenland Home Rule Administration.
