Caption: Military arctic survival training. Navy recruits participating in a mock rescue mission during arctic survival training in Northern Greenland. The recruits are training to become members of the Royal Danish Navy's SIRIUS sledge patrol unit. During the exercise, recruits must learn to rescue a person who has fallen into icy water before hypothermia sets in. Other tasks required during training include building emergency snow shelters, hunting for food, trekking on skis and driving sledgedog teams. The primary task of SIRIUS is to patrol, survey and protect Danish territory in North and Northeast Greenland.
