Caption: Minesweeper. Aardvark vehicle clearing a Kuwaiti beach of mines. Aardvark is a remotely-operated vehicle used to detonate mines without endangering human life. The chains at the front trigger any surface mines while the metal shield behind them prevents the Aardvark being damaged by the blast. These mines were planted by Iraqi troops during the Gulf War in 1990-1991.
