Caption: Making fire with a Bow Drill. This is an old technique that has been used since Medieval times to create fire. The device consists of a wooden spindle that sits on a fireboard, which is held in place with a hand hold. The spindle is spun rapidly using a bow. The friction that is caused between the spindle and the fireboard will produce the heat needed to ignite tinder.
