Caption: Coal mining breathing apparatus. Mine rescue worker equipped with a Draeger Oxygen Helmet. This is the Avondale shaft of the D. L. W. Colliery. It is thought that this coal mine was located in Pennsylvania, USA. Photographed in January 1911. The Draeger company, founded in Germany in 1889, designed, and continues to design, a range of breathing and protection equipment, though now the focus is on medical equipment.
