Caption: Wright Flyer and spectators during trial flights, 14th December 1903. The spectators, men from a local US coastguard station and two local boys, also helped the Wright brothers carrying the flyer from its hangar to the top of the hill. The trials resulted in the aircraft actually leaving the ground, although it was slightly damaged. Following repairs the first powered flight took place on 17th December, covering 36. 6 metres. Photographed at Kill Devil Hill, Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, USA.
