Caption: Morse code receiver. Diagram of a device for receiving and printing messages sent down telegraph wires in morse code. When a message is to be received, the weight (bottom left) is released turning the mechanism and feeding a strip of paper (F) past a print head (G). Each dot or dash (electric pulse) of the morse message energises the magnets (B), pulling the lever (C) and causing the print head to touch the paper. Thus, a series of short or long dashes is recorded on the strip. When the message finished, the weight was wound back to the drum using the large handle.
