Caption: Telegraph communications room. Operators working in the telegraph room at the Democratic National Committee in the USA. The operators are using typing telegraphs. Electrical wire telegraphy was developed in the 1830s, and was still used into the early years of the 20th century, developing to incorporate new technologies. By 1906, printing and typing telegraphs had been invented, allowing telegrams to be typed and printed automatically. The Democratic National Committee, founded in 1848, is the campaign and fund-raising body of the US Democratic Party. This photograph is from the Bain News Service, one of the USA's earliest news picture libraries. The photographs date from the 1890s to the 1930s.
