Caption: Bell's telephone patent. Printed patent drawings, dated 7th March 1876, of the improved telegraphy machine invented by Alexander Graham Bell (1847-1922). This would become known as the telephone. This page of the patent shows the electromagnetic systems used. The patent ensured that Bell and his company were able to make millions of dollars from developing and selling the new invention. This is patent number 174,465 issued by the US Patent Office. Bell's signature is at lower right.
