Caption: Mekometre surveying. Surveyor using a mekometre, an instrument used to measure long distances at extremely high resolution. This equipment is specifically designed for mechanical and civil engineering work. It is electro-optic, where it uses an electric field to alter the properties of the light emitted from the mekometre to create a precise beam. The light beam is detected by the receiver component at the other end of the region being measured, which instantly calculates the exact distance the beam has travelled. Photographed in 1967.
