Astrology. Coloured historical artwork showing an astrologer (left) casting a horoscope. The day and night skies are seen in the background. Astrology, the belief that planetary motions influence human lives, motivated studies of the heavens that would later develop into astronomy. Astrology was found in many ancient civilisations, including Babylon, Greece, Egypt and Rome. Early astronomers, such as Tycho Brahe and Johannes Kepler, would also cast horoscopes for their clients. Astronomers today no longer believe in astrology. This artwork is from Robert Fludd's Utriusque Cosmi Historia (1617-19).
