Caption: Astrology book title page. The book is titled The Astrologer of the Nineteenth Century or the Master Key of Futurity... (1825). The artwork shows an archway of zodiacal symbols over a key and a bible. At bottom are three quotes: "I consider the heavens the work of thy fingers, the Moon and the Stars, which thou hast ordained" (Psalms, VIII:3); "They fought from heaven, the Stars in their courses fought against Sisera" (Judges, V:20); "Sidus adsit amicum" (Cicero, Let a friendly star be with you). This 560-page book, published in London, was by the English astrologer Robert Cross Smith (1795-1832), best known as Raphael (name on blue plaque). The book included chapters on astrology, raising the spirits of the dead, and magical talismans, charms, and incantations.
