Caption: Hydra constellation, 15th century artwork. Engraving of the Hydra serpent, with Latin text. This large constellation is seen with two other constellations: Crater (the Cup) and Corvus (the Raven). The black asterisks show the position of the stars that make up these constellations. This artwork is from the 1482 edition of Hyginus's Poeticon Astronomicon (Poetic Astronomy). This 1st-century BC star atlas was republished several times in the medieval period with woodcut engravings of the stars and constellations.
