Caption: Radiolarian. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the radiolarian, Acanthometra sp. Radiolaria are non-motile protozoa, containing buoyancy-enhancing structures (not shown). Around the skeleton is an external layer of protoplasm from which radiates numerous pseudopodia (false feet). Radiolaria are usually found in marine environments and have an average life span of two weeks.
