Caption: Purple tube sponge (Aplysina lacunosa). This sponge inhabits the tropical waters of the western Atlantic Ocean, including the Caribbean Sea. It is usually found over 15 metres deep, attached to coral reef walls. This sponge is a filter feeder, and wafts water through its body continuously, sifting out the organic material. All the cells in a sponge's body are capable of performing any function that the organism requires.
