Caption: Sponge (phylum Porifera). Sponges are primitive animals, whose bodies are not differentiated into organs or tissues like those of other animals. The individual cells of a sponge can perform any of the functions of any of the sponge's cells if required. Sponges filter water through their bodies, trapping bacteria and tiny food particles. Photographed off San Salvador Island in the Bahamas, in the Caribbean Sea.
