Caption: Brain coral. Close-up of the surface of a symmetrical brain coral (Diplora strigosa). This coral is named as its numerous folds give it the appearance of a human brain. Corals are tiny organisms which live in large colonies which build such familiar stony structures around them for protection and support. They feed on plankton particles which they sift from the water using feathery tentacles.
