Caption: False black coral (Gerardia savaglia). This is not a coral. It is a colonial sea anemone that is seen covering the hard structure of a sea fan that it has invaded and taken over. The tentacles of the numerous small anemones are used to obtain food from the passing water. Photographed off Levant Island, France, in the north-western Mediterranean Sea.
