Caption: Sea plume (Pseudopterogorgia sp.). This is a colony of coral-like organisms that secrete a tough substance around themselves for protection and support. The fronds of the sea plume are supple, and move with the water currents. The tiny organisms (polyps, not seen) feed by trapping passing particles of plankton. Photographed off Andros Island in the Bahamas, in the Caribbean Sea.
