Caption: Light micrograph of a sessile or fixed rotifer Collotheca sp. , attached to a submerged leaf. Rotifers are allied to roundworms. They are usually freshwater organisms though a few marine species are known. Collotheca secretes a transparent mucous tube into which it can retreat when disturbed. A single egg is seen inside the tube. Prey organsims are captured by long stiff cilia surrounding the mouth funnel. Magnification x35 (at 35mm size)
