Caption: Light micrograph of the hatching of the rotifer Adineta sp. The picture shows the newly hatched rotifer (right) immediately after having emerged from the egg (left). The young rotifer remains beside the egg for the first few minutes, extending and contracting itself, before swimming off in search of food. Rotifers are allied to roundworms. They are usually freshwater though some marine species are known. Magnification x100 (at 35mm size)
