Caption: Chaetogaster worm. Polarised light micrograph of the worm Chaetogaster sp. This annelid worm is of microscopic proportions. Its segmented body can be seen, with protruding setae (hair-like structures) used for movement. Internally, various regions of the gut are visible. The head region is at lower left. Many species of Chaetogaster are found living on freshwater snails, while feeding on one- celled organisms in the water. One species of Chaetogaster lives within the opening of the snail lung, and feeds on trematode fluke larvae which otherwise are parasitic on the snail. Magnification unknown.
