Caption: Fireworm. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a fireworm (family Amphinomidae). This is a polychaete (meaning many-bristled) and segmented worm. Polychaete worms, also called bristleworms, are usually found in the sea. The bristles are at the end of protrusions (parapodia, red) that line the body (blue) of the worm. The parapodia are used as paddles to swim in water. The parapodia also act as the worm's gills.
