Caption: Leech farm. Researcher selects medicinal leeches, Hirudo medicinalis, from a tank of water at a leech farm. These blood-sucking leeches can be attached to patients to remove accumulated blood (a haematoma). Chemicals can also be extracted from the leeches' saliva to make drugs. Leeches need to be kept in cool, fresh water.
