Caption: Sally Lightfoot crab. View of a Sally Lightfoot crab (Grapsus grapsus) on rocks. This brightly- coloured crab inhabits the Galapagos Islands off the west coast of South America. They follow the tide-line throughout the day and night, feeding on algae and organic scraps. They are fast and agile across rocks and shallow water, but fall prey to herons on land and moray eels and hawkfish in the water. When disturbed they can squirt water jets to confuse their adversary. Photographed in the Galapagos Islands, which belong to Ecuador.
