Caption: Sea slater (Ligia oceanica) underwater in a rock pool. This is a marine relative of the woodlouse that lives in coastal regions. Its head, bearing two black eyes, is at right. It is a scavenger, feeding on particles of plant and animal matter. It is primarily nocturnal, spending most of the day hiding from predators. The sea slater can reach a length of up to three centimetres. Photographed in west Wales, UK.
