Caption: Ghost crab (Ocypode quadrata) in shallow waters on the Madagascar coast. The crab inhabits sandy beaches and excavates burrows in which it lives. It is generally nocturnal, emerging from its burrow at night to feed on molluscs such as clams, insects, vegetation and other crabs. Its carapace (shell) may reach a width of up to five centimetres.
