Caption: There are many groundwater crayfish in the aquifers of Florida. This is an unidentified Procambarus sp. from Citrus Co. Interestingly, this species still has remnants of visual structures and a tiny amount of pigmentation remaining in its vestigial eyes. The population of stygobitic crayfish from which this crayfish came is very near a locality for Procambarus lucifugus. In fact, once genetic comparisons are made, this may represent a formerly unknown population of that species.
