Caption: Seed shrimp. Light micrograph of a seed shrimp (Cyclocypris sp.). The body of this freshwater crustacean is enclosed in two shells, which it can open and close using a special muscle. It swims by beating its two antennae. Seed shrimps generally live at the bottom of the body of water that they inhabit, feeding mainly on rotting plant and animal material. Dark field illumination.
