Caption: Water flea. Light micrograph of a water flea (Daphnia sp.). This is a small freshwater crustacean commonly found in ponds. It swims by beating its branched antennae (upper right). It feeds on phytoplankton (algae), which it wafts into its mouth by beating small limbs on its carapace. Its eye (black, by antennae) and internal organs (red) are seen. Magnification: x12 at 35mm size.
