Caption: Freshwater shrimp. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the head of a freshwater shrimp (Gammarus sp.). Its antennae are at top, with its mouthparts underneath them. It has two eyes (dark brown) on either side of its head. Four of its ten legs are also seen (across bottom). Freshwater shrimps grow up to 35 millimetres in length. They feed on decomposing vegetation, bacteria and algae, using their first two pairs of legs to grab the food.
