Caption: Scale insect eggs. Eggs of a scale insect (superfamily Coccoidea) on a leaf. Female scale insects do not possess wings, and are commonly found as plant parasites. The males are tiny and lack a proboscis, which means they cannot feed. The female scale insect produces a mass of eggs over many days (between 500 and 2000) and then dies.
