Caption: Lantern fly (Fulgora sp.) on a piece of wood. The lantern fly, or alligator bug, is a large tropical insect, distinguished by its peculiar head structure. The head process was once thought to be luminous, hence the fly's name. Its appearance may camouflage it against the bark of trees or deter predators. Photographed at Poring Hot Springs, Sabah, Malaysia.
