Caption: Golden-ringed dragonfly (Cordulegaster boltonii) warming itself on a fern frond. It is preparing itself for flight by warming its wings with rapid beats. This dragonfly is a fast aerial predator which catches smaller insects in flight. It spends much of its time around water, and its larva is entirely aquatic. The adult may reach 10 centimetres in length.
