Caption: Dragonfly metamorphosis. Stages in the emergence of a broad-bodied Chaser dragonfly Libellula depressa) from its larval case attached to the leaf of a yellow iris (Iris pseudoacorus). This is an example of incomplete metamorphosis. The emergence differs from that of a butterfly which has a complete metamorphosis. First the body part from the distal abdomen is withdrawn and hangs ventral side upwards then secondly the body flips over and the legs are withdrawn.
