Caption: Bush cricket. High-speed photograph of a Great Green Bush cricket (Tettigonia viridissima) in flight. This insect is an excellent flier, usually most active in the afternoon and at night but flying more often during the day in warm weather. It inhabits bushes and scrubby vegetation in Europe and has an omnivorous diet which includes plants, but is composed mainly of other insects. It uses its long and powerful rear legs to jump away from predators, and the male sings to attract a mate by raising and rubbing his wings together.
