Caption: Grasshopper on organic crop. Nymph (juvenile form) of an unidentified species of grasshopper on spelt wheat. Grasshoppers are members of the order Orthoptera, along with crickets and katydids. They have well-developed hind legs for jumping. The adults have four wings, the front pair of which are tough and leathery. They are agricultural pests on grain crops. Spelt (Triticum spelta) is a separate species from common wheat (T. aestivum). It is suited to organic production (without the use of most synthetic fertilisers, pesticides or herbicides).
