Caption: Ladybird larva. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the larva of a seven spot ladybird (Coccinella septempunctata). Three dark ocelli (simple eyes) are seen on its head at centre left. Its jaws are seen below its head. In common with the mature ladybird, this larva is an active predator, feeding on smaller insects such as aphids. Magnification: x17 at 5x7cm size. Magnification: x43 at 5x7" size.
