Caption: Boll weevil. Macrophotograph of a boll weevil (Anthonomus grandis) feeding on a plant bud. Its mouthparts are at the end of its long snout, or rostrum, and are designed for drilling holes in plants in which to lay its eggs, as well as for feeding. This weevil lives primarily on the cotton plant, and can do huge amounts of damage to cotton plantations. Great efforts have been made to eradicate it in the USA. Magnification unknown.
