Caption: Ladybird eating aphids. Macrophotograph of a seven-spot ladybird (Coccinella septempunctata) feeding on a colony of apple aphids (Aphis pomi). The ladybird beetle is a voracious hunter, and aphids are its main prey. It is encouraged by gardeners as aphids are serious pests of flowers, vegetables and some fruit trees. The characteristic pattern of spots and colours on the ladybird's wing covers serve to warn potential predators that the ladybird itself is inedible. Magnification unknown.
