Caption: Mealybug ladybird's head, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). The mealybug ladybird beetle (Cryptolaemus montrouzieri) is bred as a biological pest controller. Both the adult and larval stage feed exclusively on the mealybug (family Psudococcidae), a pest of various fruit crops. Its large compound eyes (purple) are seen at upper left and right, and its mouthparts are seen at lower centre. Magnification: x35 at 6x7cm size.
